MND in Ayurveda

According to Ayurveda it is a degenerative conditions affecting brain mainly due to vitiation of vata dosha. This vitiation or change is mainly due to obstruction or blockage in its sensory and motor activities by other doshas (pitta and kapha) or dushyas like dhatus or malas leading to the disease.
Here the main activity of vata gets blocked by kapha dosha leading to the condition of reduced activity, weakness and muscular spasm.

Symptoms:

The progression of the disease can be rapid and results in death within a year of onset or it may be slow in progression extending over number of years. Cramps are an early symptom predating Wasting & Weakness. Clumsiness of one hand for skilled activity and later for gross activity, which later on involves the opposite hand with marked wasting of small muscles of the hand is common. Wasting, Flaccidity and Loss of Tendon Reflexes are seen. Spasticity of the limbs, difficult walk, spastic gait, inability to hold the objects in the hands. Difficulty in swallowing first for liquids and then for solids (Dysphasia). Speech is affected progressively in articulation (Dysarthria) & Phonation (Dysphonia).

Emotional Disability is also noted.

Weight Loss is marked in MND.

Treatment

Treatment is usually long for MND and it is a "Kasta Sadhya Roga" (difficult to cure). Ayurvedic Management arrests the further degeneration and prolongs the life of the patients.

Removing the blockage caused by a specific dosha and maintaining the normalcy of vata dosha is the main line of treatment, it can be effectively managed by specific oral medicines and peripheral treatment modalities like Panchkarma.

Chikitsa according to Ayurveda is the measures calculated for the removal of Causative Factors and to restore doshic equilibrium. Basically MND is a disease of Vata dosha. Here the normalcies of Vata like its Gunas & Karmas are being affected.

Lavanya’s aim of the Treatment is to produce Brumhana or Santarpana (Nourishing), Vatahara and Anulomana chikitsa. Panchkarma Procedures & Rejuvenation Therapies are done with utmost Care and Concern.

Our treatment is aimed in treating the basic pathology of the disease, preventing or reducing further progress of the disease, disability and prolonging survival.
