The word prameha means watering i.e. dilution of everything in the body not only urine. The main causes of prameha (diabetes) are lack of exercise and improper food habits in excess food intake which falls in the category of ushna, snigdha and guru are the primaary cause of the disease – fish,
curd are good examples. Foods that increase kapha, medhas and moothra are the etiological factors for prameha. According to ayurveda, diabetes is a metabolic kapha type of disorder in which diminished functioning of agni leads to a tendency toward high blood sugar. (Ayurveda recognizes 20 forms of the disease commonly classified under Prameha 4 are due to Vata dosha, 6 are due to Pitta dosha, and 10 are caused by Kapha dosha. The main causes of these diseases are fat, urine, and Kapha buildups due to foods, liquids, lifestyle and others.)
According to the unique assessments of ayurvedic concepts diabetes is the disease which occurs when toxins get accumulated in the tissue and result in circulation blockage. The various root causes of diabetes that ayurveda enlists are poor nutrition and poor digestion, inequity of nervous system, physical and mental stress, and disturbance in natural biological cycle. .
