ARJUNA Sanskrit : Arjuna English : Arjun Myrobalan Latin : Terminalia arjuna W & A A large tree with huge trunk and horizontally spreading branches found throughout Sub-Himalayan tract, central and western India. the bark is used medicinally. ASHOKA Sanskrit : Ashoka English : Ashok Tree Latin : Saraca indica Linn. A large branched tree with brilliant red coloured flower found wild in forests in eastern and southern regions of the country. It is also cultivated as shade tree and in gardens. Bark is esteemed in Ayurveda for its use in female disorders. ASHWAGANDHA Sanskrit : Ashwagandha English : Winter Cherry Latin : Withania somnifera Dunal A small perennial shrub with white flowers and orange red berry found in warmer region of India. It is cultivated extensively in central and western India. The roots are used in the preparation of various formulations of Ayurvedic origin. |
